A Hike
in the Land of Chinook
September
19, 1999

21 people and 24 dogs (20 Chinooks) joined in the
hike!
The Chinook hike was the first Chinooks New England! event which took place in the land of Chinook. Karen and Rich Fass took responsibility to plan a day hike in Hemenway Forest in the Tamworth area. The day was perfect - crisp with a clear blue sky. Rich led us down a path that was worth following. Different constellations of people walked and talked together as the dogs enjoyed the trail.

If anyone has heard much about out events, you know what we did next. Yup, food was involved. We backed all of the vehicles in a circle of sorts and enjoyed our picnic lunches on our tailgates. Some delicious food, more conversation, and a successful 50/50 rounded out the morning.

After lunch, a smaller band of travelers went on to see the Chinook Kennels and the chapel where Arthur and Kate Walden are buried. It was really great to be in the area where the breed started so many years ago. You could close your eyes and imagine Walden driving Chinook in the field across from the chapel. It was truly magical.
Chinook signs were everywhere...
