Gene and Andrea Marshal have been taking in rescue dogs for years. When they found the Chinook breed, they knew right away they'd like to rescue a Chinook. Even though they originally asked for a young female to add to their pack, they jumped at the chance to give a five year old purebred Chinook a second shot at a good life. They took Hurricane Keno in, sight unseen and fell in love with him the minute they saw him. They write: Keno has been a real blessing in our home. He is very sociable and although he weights 60 lbs., he thinks he's a lap dog. He loves visitors and grandchildren and, unlike Zachary, he likes to stay clean. When he gets excited, he jumps straight up in the air and stands on his hind legs. He occassionally howls when he feels lonely and wakes us up every morning to remind us that it is time for a walk. We feel quite sure that God has a Chinook. |

Keno, Quila and Zachary
Quila Quila's mother was a stray that wandered around until we put her in our backyard. She had obviously been abused, was pregnant and did not trust humans. We could not even get close to her to show her any affection or to demonstrate that we would not harm her. Refusing to come inside, she stayed in a covered shed. On a cool, rainy night, she ran wildly across the yard, dropping puppies on the cold wet ground. Although all six pups were gathered up and put into the shed, Quila was the only pup to survive. She is a wonderful pet, very obedient and easy to e around. Although she is highly sensitive, unlike her mother, she is very comfortable with people. We could never find a home for Quila's mother. One couple took her for awhile but brought her back because she would never let them get close to her. One day, she escaped from the backyard and was never seen again. |
Zachary Zachary was purchased from a pet store as a mother's day gift to Andrea. We later found out that the pet store owner had purchased him from a puppy mill in Waco, Texas. A few months after we bought Zachary, we saw on television where the puppy mill had been shut down. Zachary is full of personality and very loyal. He loves to swim, travel, get dirty and has no fear of larger dogs. He looks into the mirror and sees a Lion. He and Keno have become best friends.
